At last weeks Wallpaper* Design Awards, Knoll’s Nakashima Splay Table and Tray were named as one of the best reissues of the year.
George Nakashima is best known for his unique pieces of furniture, which are prized for their respect for the natural forms of the tree and the inherent grain of the wood and the Splay series epitomize this with their natural, low-sheen finish and “live” grain patterns.

Back in February 2009 influential design magazine Wallpaper awarded the prize for best bookshelf 2009 to Desalto for the ‘Fluid’ range designed by Ark Levy.
The Fluid project explores infinite spatial possibilities through a single element, mimicking DNA by allowing the generation of endless combinations.
Wallpaper gave reason for its choice saying that: “the sheer versatility of Fluid impressed us with endless configurations from bookshelf to side table to room divider, this is one system that goes with the flow”.
A base module is at the origin of the system Fluid: a small and light parallelepiped - realized with a steel rod grid - that can be freely combined both horizontally and vertically with endless configurations. The modules are hooked together with transparent joints. The single module can be used by itself: with a top it becomes a useful side table or with a little cushion an additional seat.
With this acknowledgement Wallpaper awards Desoto’s prerogative: the constant offer of contemporary, flexible products with a functional and minimal design.
