'Sinapsi', by chilean designer Sebastian Errazuriz, is a modular shelving system whose 'branches' create a variety of routes and spaces to accommodate the storage of different items.
Initially conceived through the study of cells and brain synapsis, the design offers a form that can be repeated and flexibly re-rearranged for different user needs.
In order to produce 'Sinapsi', Errazuriz used pressed wood which was shaped without using any molds. This type of industrial process permits the creation of even more complex forms.

Etch collection, a digitally manufactured brass pendant light and candle-holder. Inspired by the logic of pure maths, Etch is made using an industrial process that allows for intricate patterns to be cut directly onto the metal.

Leading independent department store Fenwick launches Bond & Brook – a new, integrated restaurant concept, central to the re-design of the prestigious luxury retailer’s flagship London store.
Designed by architectural and interiors practice d_raw, in collaboration with the hospitality consultancy A Private View (founded by Evening Standard restaurant critic Fay Maschler & Journalist and Broadcaster, Simon Davis) the site, as one of a very small number to offer food and drink on Bond street, will boast not only a daytime restaurant but also a less formal café area and a large, sculptural, showpiece of a cocktail bar central to the no-expense-spared space.
All elements of the design have been created especially for the reclaimed space, most prominently a curtain of semi-reflective, floor to ceiling, asymmetric glass ‘fins’ that encircle the two store-facing sides of the restaurant, allowing the restaurant to be concealed or indeed opened up onto (and mixed with) the fashion floor, highlighting the stores several new acquisitions.
Other features include a full ‘fashion library’ of books and magazines and a ‘champagne burst’ chandelier (a visual echo of the celebratory ambience) rising above the pewter wrapped cocktail bar.
The new restaurant, as a key part of the Fenwick’s major new re-design for 2010, signals a renewed commitment to a stronger than ever fashion proposition plus a stylish reminder of the unique flair of one of Britain’s most charming independent stores.

Furniture manufacturer MARK are introducing a new product range by Dylan Freeth at this year’s 100% Design. ‘Iso’ is a range of tables and desks that marries an ultra-simple concept with great detailing and execution.
The Cornish company’s guiding values are sustainability and liveability. With Iso they have addressed these by going for the most pared down design, believing this to be the most versatile and practical and therefore long lasting. The idea is also that the choice of sizes and materials offered creates different versions suited to home, office and hospitality use. These include round, square, rectangular and custom sizes. All share the signature joinery detail of the wedge shaped leg and all are manufactured entirely in Cornwall.
What looks so simple is in fact a significant engineering challenge, to combine the necessary stability and strength with such fine lines. There is also an optional cable management facility - used either as a convenient leads tidy for home use, or part of a more extensive system for the office.
Dylan has previously designed the Six coat stand and Horizon screen which share the functional purpose and clean geometry of Iso. He explains “I’ve aimed to design a set of legs and other parts that combine in different ways to make the tables easy to customise in terms of size, finish and function, easy to store, easy to transport and install. I hope the design detailing and quality of manufacture will make the tables and desks good to live with for a very long time”

The Suita Sofa ushers in a new phase in the partnership between Vitra and Antonio Citterio that began in 1985. For the very first time, they have created a modern, timeless and elegant sofa range for the living room in Citterio’s signature style. Suita is a collaborative creation between Vitra and Citterio, born in 1950, and serves to add a system including both sofas and chairs that all subtly combine Italian flair for lightness and elegant workmanship with Swiss industrial quality and precision.
Suita takes the classic sofa and gives it a contemporary, lightweight, yet industrial and technical look. The geometrical, clear lines of the body and the soft-worked paddings seem to float on top of the bridge-like feet made of polished aluminium. With their rounded form, these feet can be considered to pay homage to American mid-century design. Suita combines modernity with timelessness in the same way that other classic pieces of furniture do.
The original Take That line-up is back and what better place to meet up with some old friends! Gary Barlow, Howard Donald, Jason Orange, Mark Owen and Robbie Williams have confirmed they have recorded a new studio album together and were pictured discussing new material on the iconic Cassina Maralunga Sofa by Vico Magistretti.
Magistretti began working with Cassina in the 1960s, at a time when Italian design was undergoing a great change. He sometimes refined designs alongside Cesare Cassina, the company head, and produced the Maralunga sofa in 1973.
The form of the sofa disguises its most important feature - adjustable headrests independent to each seat. Through this clever and subtle mechanism, the two and three seater sofas, as well as the armchair from the range can be reconfigured to allow one sitter to sit upright while another enjoys greater back support. The sofa has a rigid steel frame covered by polyurethane foam and polyester padding and either fabric or leather upholstery, giving it a soft, curvaceous appearance.
Maralunga is one of our bestsellers and has been in production for 35 years, and though subsequent designs have attempted to emulate the design, the original remains a classic piece appealing to a variety of consumers decades on.
