Think Pink With Gubi: Exclusive Campaign For Breast Cancer Awareness Month

2020 has been a strange old year. And while solidarity among the human family has been at an all-time high, donations to charities have plummeted. It’s with this in mind that we’ve joined forces with Danish brand Gubi to get everyone Thinking Pink this autumn. As well as giving away a luxury pink TS Side Table, we’ll also be donating 10% of the profits on all Gubi orders placed in October to a UK Breast Cancer Charity of the winner’s choice. For details on how to enter (as well as a healthy dose of pink interiors inspiration), keep reading till the end of the blog.

The Political Power of Pink

The colour pink has made quite a name for itself in recent years. You might have seen it as the backdrop for Gubi’s new concept store with BEAST, or else adorning the models at Gucci and Marc Jacobs. Long abhorred by brand executives for its “lack of seriousness”, pink as a marketing choice was historically deemed “too limiting”. Fast forward a decade or two, and its pervasive influence suggests a change in global attitudes is afoot. In an unlikely turn of events, pink has become a fundamental instrument in challenging retrograde ideas about colour and femininity.

While the hue has been used since 1992 to highlight the necessity of breast cancer research, pink as a serious design possibility first came onto the Chaplins radar in 2013 with the introduction of GamFratesi’s Beetle Chair. Rich and stylish, it provided a necessary injection of warmth to neutral Scandinavian palettes, reinvigorating a tradition that had reached its limit with grey. It would soon become a staple across the Gubi collection, creating playful new possibilities for classic styles such as the Mategot Bar Trolley and Multi Pendant Light. Big-name designers such as Jaime Hayon and Patricia Urquiola quickly followed suit, bringing forth bold, transgressive designs that rescued the shade from its coy connotations.

Since then, we’ve seen the rise of Millennial Pink, Rose Quartz and Vintage Red — all aliases for the luxurious and popular pink. Its success is largely explained by its flexibility as a decorating colour. Pair it with grey and you have a sophisticated and soft ambience. Opt for a cool combination of pastels,  on the other hand, and you have a fresh and uplifting space, no matter your style.

In 2020, pink continues as a decorating favourite, acting as a soothing backdrop for soft taupe and rich walnut finishes. No longer a harbinger of sugary-sweet femininity, it promises to keep reinventing itself as a powerful talisman of contemporary style.
