Milan 2016: New Cassina Collection by Patricia Urquiola

Patricia Urquiola gives a reflection on the future of Cassina, without losing sight of its past

At this years Milan Furniture Fair we saw Cassina present exciting new designs by Patricia Urquiola, their newly appointed Art Director.

First up is the Beam Sofa System that develops horizontally along a rigorous beam base which contrasts with soft and inviting cushions influenced by the works of Vico Magistretti, a huge inspiration for the designer who was lucky enough to be a student of the maestro.

The other is a unique armchair with sinuous lines which can be used in a variety of different environments. The Gender armchair, which, as its name suggests, does not have a gender, it’s not traditional or modern, but an individual piece with stand-alone power.

As Cassina continue to look ahead in the lead up to its 90th anniversary in 2017, these new products mark the beginning of a new and important chapter for the next 90 years of design culture and heritage.
