Flos
Disciples of the idea that a good life starts with a good light
For the love of light...
Light shapes every aspect of our waking life. And to a large extent, the quality of the time we spend in slumber.
Cultivating wellbeing through light is a calling that Flos have devoted to themselves to for the last sixty years. And yet it doesn’t stop there. They are also key innovators in shaping how we experience the architecture of culture at large. The first to create an oversized floor lamp that drops light exactly where you need it. And the first to introduce powerful portable lighting (hello Bellhop).
Indeed, through a gentle alchemy of technology and emotion, their lamps are not so much static objects as companions — indispensable gadgets that dramatically improve the way we work, rest or play.
So no matter what rituals you make time for, with Flos, you'll always find a way to bring them to life.
At Flos, you won't find a uniform design model but styles that seek to express a sense of our time.

Creating culture
Many people think that culture is about the stories that have already been told. And while tradition has a part to play, culture is also an invitation to dream together, developing new ideas that help make sense of the here and now.
It’s in this space of limitless possibility that we find many of Flos’ most famous designs: statement styles underwritten by the kind of technology that always seemed impossible until it was done.
Tracing trajectories
Michael Anastassiades is one of Flos’ most exciting collaborators. He’s also the hardest to pin down. In another life, we like to think he might have been an astronomer, tasked with making sense of the mysteries of the cosmos. Today, he settles for authoring spellbinding constellations of light.
Much of their magic can be attributed to the way Anastassiades lives his own life. At a time where it's possible to be overwhelmed by distraction, Anastassiades champions subtraction. A stripping down of the superfluous to arrive at a design's most essential, poetic parts.
Protecting the future
Not all lighting is born equal.
In the last decade alone, we've seen how exposure to blue light can short circuit our sleep patterns and how the afterglow of cities can block our view of the stars.
The challenge for lighting brands, then, is clear: to connect us with a kinder light. One that respects our rhythms and treads lightly upon the Earth.
At Flos, 2022 began with the announcement that the Italian lighting brand is now officially carbon neutral. A huge step, ahead of schedule, that establishes them as a leader in the cleaving a path to a brighter tomorrow.

Agent Provocateur
Philippe Starck may not be a conventional designer but he is a straight shooter. It’s why when he began work on his most controversial collection yet, he knew he wanted at least 20% of the profits to go to the Frères des Hommes charity.
"I am a designer and design is my only weapon, so I use it to speak about what I think is important."
Philippe Starck
Known as the Gun Collection — it is a baroque, artistic style, in which the silhouette of a Kalashnikov AK47 is draped in 18k gold. Peer closely inside the shade and you'll also notice a number of silkscreened crosses — a detail that Starck says is to remember the dead and the inexorable relationship between conflict and greed.
With its cinematic styling and cutting message, it goes to the heart of Starck's design philosophy: a conduit not just for good aesthetics but for "opening the doors to people's brains".
As of this year, we're delighted to welcome the entire Gun collection in two new seductive finishes: matt black and matt white.
