Luxurious Linework
Luxurious Linework
It’s time to get your groove on, because interior objects decorated with ridges and linear indentations are here and while it may sound strange written down, right now, it’s all about the parallel line and it’s a minimalist treat for the eyes (and hands).
As you’d expect, timber leads the way with this trend. From large furniture pieces covered with scored lines to slats getting in on the action in a slightly less three- dimensional way, it’s all both smart and tempting to run your fingers along. Porada’s Linka console by Tarcisio Colzani is covered head to toe in lines carved so deep they create a blurring-around-the-edges effect, with the Canaletta walnut body just visible underneath, whereas Gallotti&Radice’s 5th Avenue collection by Marcello Pozzi is dressed in black lacquered ash strips interspersed with black chromed ‘supermirror’ stainless steel, creating a striped high-shine finish that’s a sight to behold.

Softer materials add even more temptation to touch, with ridges and groves created in a variety of textiles. Gan’s Lines rug by Mayice Studio uses long pile merino wool to form a series of straight craters along the carpet, which is cut at gentle angles to which accentuate and add edge to the horizontal pattern.
Glass emphasises the pattern’s linear shadows, casting them around its vicinity in a way that’s beguiling and enthralling but still decidedly understated. Karakter’s Lari lamp by Angelo Mangiarotti has an architectural feel, the indentations running along the glass shade very much uniform and aligned, waiting to be softened in shadow form.

Lining with design
What’s so alluring about linear ridges and grooves is their ability to create both visual and tactile intrigue. These patterns play with light and shadow, enhancing the depth and dimension of surfaces, while offering an irresistible texture that invites interaction. The precision and repetition of the lines evoke a sense of order and simplicity, yet the varying materials and finishes – whether wood, glass, fabric, or beyond – bring warmth and character to the design in a way that feels both gloriously current and beautifully timeless.
