Chesterfield loungers have gone through many evolutions since they first started popping up in English clubhouses in Edwardian England. Although none have been quite so extraordinary as the ones that have taken place in the leather workshops at Poltrona Frau.
First unveiled by Renzo Frau in 1912, Poltrona Frau's Chester sees this iconic style imbued with Italian flair and meticulous craftsmanship. Each of the capitonné buttons is individually tacked and sewn. And the leather armrests folded and pleated by hand. It's a similar story inside, too, where the eight-way biconical springs are attached to jute straps that ensure perfect posture and comfort. Intricate and enduring, Chester is a classic style for homes that crave history, beauty and furniture that can be passed down through the generations.
Materials & Finishes
Furniture that looks good from every angle. That's the Chaplins Promise. Delve into the details here…
Padding: The backrest and armrests of this stately armchair are padded with hand-shaped vegetable horsehair. The cushions are then shaped from polyurethane foam before being padded with goose down.
Suspension: Further comfort is ensured by biconical hand-tied steel springs fastened to jute belts.
Upholstery: The Chester Armchair is currently available online in Poltrona Frau's ColourSphere leather — their boldest, lowest maintenance collection yet. The capitonné effect is achieved by hand and completed with a series of tacks that give a finishing touch to the leather.
Base:: It is available with two different feet options — spherical (H 6 cm) or High (H 12 cm) in dark walnut stained beech wood or black lacquered beech wood.
W 104 x D 91 x H 67 cm. Seat height: 43 cm.
