A Closer Look At The Furniture Behind Your Favourite Hollywood Films

It’s often said that a picture is worth a thousand words. With the click of a shutter, an image can change everything we thought we knew about a certain people, place or conflict. It’s the same with film and a reason why so much time is spent creating the ideal sets for major blockbusters. As the curtains close on the 91st Academy Awards, we’re rewinding the reels to remember the moments our furniture was used to define some of Hollywood’s most exciting characters.

1) Bohemian Rhapsody

A stirring, nostalgic epic, Bohemian Rhapsody is replete with the music and fashion that took the 70s by storm. It follows the ascent of British rock band Queen and the turbulent life of Freddie Mercury, played on screen by Rami Malek. Just as Mercury’s path to self-destruction seems assured, he receives a visit from his beloved ex-fiance Mary, in which we find him sprawled across a red leather Flap Sofa in his stateside pad. Eccentric and one-of-a-kind, the Edra lounger captures the essence of the irrepressible Freddie, an icon who carried off dramatic looks with regal flair.

2) Quantum of Solace

Pictured above is the heart-wrenching moment that two Platner Dining Tables and four Platner Side Chairs appeared to meet a fiery end in the James Bond film Quantum of Solace. We can, however, confirm that no chairs were harmed in the making of this movie and Chaplins received the full set back alongside a certificate of authentication for its future owners. Keen eyes will also spot Maxalto’s Talamo Bed taking centre stage for a romantic scene between Daniel Craig and Gemma Arteton.

3) Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice

Debuting as one of the most expensive movies of all time, ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ was intended as the launching pad of DC’s entire silver screen universe. Though the movie hit a flat note with critics, Batman’s Glass House displayed impeccable design acumen, featuring Barcelona Lounge Chairs, an LC6 Dining Table and the eternally stylish Brno Side Chairs. The broody, masculine lair also benefited from lashings of Italian style, showcasing B&B Italia’s Charles Corner Sofa and Alanda Coffee Table.

4) 50 Shades Darker

Sensual and inviting, Christian Grey’s apartment is the ultimate bachelor pad. Throughout the trilogy, a series of commanding interior power plays are established with pieces like the Nasdaq Desk, Theo Armchairs and Eames La Chaise, all of which work to convey the impeccable tastes of the Seattle billionaire. A confident and considered set, it benefits from soft gushes of illumination thanks to Flos‘s Spun Table Lamp and Nemo’s Crown Major Pendant.

Age of Ultron was one of the few Superhero films that managed to successfully coordinate the plotlines and powers of multiple comic book figures. It featured the welcome return of modern heroines and their taste for contemporary design with appearances from FlosK Tribe Table Lamp and Vitra’s Eames Aluminium EA 108 Office Chair.
