Low Level Living

Leeean back and embrace the tranquillity within you in close-to-the-floor designs - pieces so laid back they seem to be unwinding even when no one’s using them. Low-level furniture – namely seating and tables – is the opposite of traditional, formal design. It embraces slouching, reclining, properly lounging to get those well-being levels up up up. Running a little late? It’s ok. Need to make a call? Maybe later. To-do-list overflowing? You can delegate it... Here, in the land of the low-level, life moves at a more restful pace.

This season’s designs have ranged the created-to-be physically short to pieces that have been re-sized to suit a more laid-back, lounge-y lifestyle. Upholstered seating with reduced-levelled tables are particularly in-vouge, providing opportunity for semi-formal but still ultra-comfort-focused aperitivo at the – shorter – small table.

Pieces that hang low tend to focus on simplicity and clean lines, drawing some of their modest aesthetic from architecture to promote a sense of openness in the room. Being close to the floor naturally brings with it a sense of being grounded, which also invites mindfulness and peace into the design equation.

From the ground up

Living life at a ground-grazing altitude makes a room feel free and unrestricted as well as intimate, the lowered perspective creating a grounded and connected feeling that encourages relaxation and fosters a cosy atmosphere, while up above it’s a celebration of space.
