Originally designed in 1953, the D.153.1 armchair was part of Gio Ponti’s private residence in Via Dezza, Milan. Now produced by Molteni&C, this re-edition is faithfully crafted based on original drawings from the Ponti archives. Featuring a brass structure, the chair is upholstered in either fabric, leather or the “Punteggiato” fabric, a design Ponti created for Rubelli in 1934. This fabric modernises the traditional velvet-weaving technique with a contemporary pattern of staggered disks in varying colour gradients.

Originally designed in 1953, the D.153.1 armchair was part of Gio Ponti’s private residence in Via Dezza, Milan. First exhibited at Salone del Mobile 2012, the D.153.1 chair remains a distinguished piece within the Gio Ponti Collection, blending timeless design with modern craftsmanship.

Chaplins White Glove Standard shipping service includes the following:
- Delivery up to and including 3rd floor of your building/home
- Two-man team to bring your piece to a room of your choice
- Full packaging removal
- Installation up to 30 minutes
While Chaplins has an in-house delivery team, we do employ third-party white glove services for certain deliveries, particularly those with special requirements. Please be aware that if your delivery requirements exceed our standard service, surcharges may apply.
Our online sales department will contact you prior to delivery to discuss your requirements, including access checks and placement. If your order cannot be delivered due to restricted access, you may request delivery to an alternative address within 2 months - please note that this will incur costs for storage and redelivery.
The pricing for Medium & Large Furniture delivery is dependent on the destinee's post-code. An estimate will be given at checkout. For international deliveries, please note that we can only provide a shipping quote for orders over £3,000.
Click & Collect
Our warehouse located in St Albans will contact you when your order is available for collection; for in stock items this is within 5 days of your order date, items not held in stock will be within 5 working days of arrival at our warehouse (see product page for indicative lead times).
Remember to bring your confirmation email with you as proof of purchase.

Gio Ponti
Gio Ponti was another Milanese master of architecture and design. Born just before the turn of the 20th century, he was a man obsessed with flight, a quality which we like to think lends his designs their acrobatic appeal. Indeed, the normal rules of gravity rarely seemed to apply to Ponti. With his clean lines and sweeping flourishes, he brought modern sensibilities to mid-century homes, crafting a plethora of iconic styles for the likes of Molteni&C, Poltrona Frau and Gubi.
