House of Finn Juhl

Scandinavian style is often praised for its restraint. For its ability to reject grand gestures in favour of understated expressions of style. Finn Juhl saw things quite differently. He believed that the best design could be both unerringly bold and quintessentially timeless. After all, what is an armchair if not a throne for living?

Such thinking wasn’t always popular. Yet it did drive him to carve out his own space in the pantheon of Nordic design. A lacuna that was swiftly filled with furnishings that were imperial in look yet full of emphatic feeling. His tenacity is something we’ve long admired at Chaplins, and one of the reasons we’re delighted to welcome his archives to our roster of Scandinavian brands.
