Arne Jacobsen
Arne was another Great Dane — a Scandi architect who spent his life dreaming up bold new ways of living. He was particularly fond of nature, and spent a lot of time drawing outdoors. A passion that would ultimately lead to the creation of his bestselling Egg, Swan and Ant Chairs for Fritz Hansen. Today he’s remembered as one of the Fathers of Danish modernism and enjoys a permanent position in art museums across the globe.
Denmark's very own
The godfather of Danish design. Few people can be credited with shaping the global presence of Scandinavian style quite like Arne Jacobsen. Across Northern Europe, there is barely a piece of architecture or a retro armchair that does not bear his mark — if not literally, then through his profound influence on generations of Scandi creatives.
Born at the turn of the 20th century, Jacobsen was unique in that he was far more than an architect, and far more than a furniture designer. He was both. Often overseeing a project from the first brick laid to the final stitch sewn, his vision extended from buildings drawn by his own hand to furniture produced in his own studio.
It is this holistic approach that gives his pieces such care and ingenuity. They were designs created not simply to furnish a space, but to meet the same exacting standards as the architecture around them.
