Vitra Home Stories: Winter 2026
Few brands offer something special for every area of your space; one that routinely does so, and makes a point of showing it, is the mid-century maestro Vitra. While renowned for having stewardship of the icons of the Eames collection, homeowners among Europe's foremost design aficionados tend to stock their spaces with more than just a singular chair or a well-placed coffee table. They build homes brimming with personality, history, and Swiss engineering, all byproducts of buying Vitra.
For Winter 2026, Vitra Home Stories takes us inside the Berlin studio of set designer Sebastian Soukup, revealing how he uses colour, light and design to create a richly layered home. We also explore the latest additions to the Vitra collection, including the new Bascule Lounge Chair, playful Panton Cubes and fresh updates to Mynt and Mikado, alongside Vitra's latest lounge chair promotion.
Sebastian Soukup - Berlin Studio
This season's Vitra home story focuses on set designer Sebastian Soukup's Berlin studio. When he's not creating sets for film productions, he turns those same visual instincts towards his own cinematic Berlin home. Without limits or briefs, but with one common theme: a wealth of pieces from across the Vitra collection.
In this Winter edition of their seasonal stories, Sebastian discusses how he uses light (both natural and artificial) as an anchor to shape a setting, then supplements and layers with bold colours from Vitra's near-infinite series of fabric and upholstery. Together, these layers bring objects, angles and shapes to life, transforming an otherwise quiet room into one filled with personality and atmosphere.
The pieces featured are an incredible representation of the Vitra collection, both past and present, from classics like the Shell Chair series to the more recent Anagram sofa. An ideal depiction of the timeline of design never truly becoming outdated, and that new ideas don't have to replace the old.
The Reclining Revolution - Bascule chair
The idea of putting your feet up with a good book is such a cosy concept that it could very easily be its own scented candle. So when the colder months roll around, recliners (and plush ones at that) become the most sought-after seat in the house. Vitra's latest answer to luxurious reclining is the new Bascule Lounge Chair by Studio Œ.
Meet Bascule. Taking its name from the French word for ‘seesaw’, Bascule is designed around movement and balance. The nature of its recliner system flows with the movements of the user with expert accuracy, while its oversized upholstery and "borrowed tailoring techniques from the world of fashion" create the furniture equivalent of a warm hug during whichever activity you choose to use it for. Or however long you can stay awake for.
We think the perfect summary can be found in the words of the designers at Studio Œ: "It is as inviting to the touch as it is to the eye."
The Square Root of Design: Vitra Panton Cubes
The centenary of Verner Panton's birth has inspired a series of limited editions, reissues and special projects celebrating one of the most recognisable figures in 20th-century furniture design. Panton occupies a particularly important place in Vitra's history, making the anniversary an obvious opportunity to revisit some of his more playful ideas.
One of these homages is a re-creation of the Danish designer's playful 1974 Pantonaef system, launched at the recent London Design Festival from their Tramshed showroom. Developed in collaboration with the Verner Panton Design AG, the Panton Cubes reinterpret the original concept as playful modular kits that can be assembled into four sculptural animal forms.
The Gift of Relaxation: Vitra Lounge Chair Promotion
Lounge chairs have become something of a theme in this article and, at the risk of sounding like a particularly relaxed broken record, there is one more reason to consider one this season. More specifically, Vitra is currently offering a complimentary Ottoman or Panchina with selected Grand Relax, Repos and Grand Repos configurations.
It is never a bad time to invest in upgrading your space, but when you can get interior icons for less, it's always worth mentioning. Purchase a Grand Relax, Repos or Grand Repos and receive a complimentary Ottoman or Panchina in a matching configuration.
Mynty Fresh: Vitra Mynt and Mikado Updates
It isn't just the classics getting a makeover. Some of Vitra's more recent releases have had visual refreshes. The Mynt Chair has also been given a softer new expression. Its original design placed movement and ergonomics at the forefront, an approach supported by research commissioned by Vitra. However, designer Erwan Bouroullec felt it could become more inviting, leading to the development of the new upholstered Mynt Soft. Mikado has evolved in a different direction, expanding into new formats. The highly successful collection is now joined by both low-seat and barstool versions, broadening the design beyond the original dining chair.
