A critical case of French fancy
For a long time, the secrets of French styling were deemed off limits for Anglophones. A quality so intrinsically French as not to survive on our side of the Channel. Then we discovered Ligne Roset. And the long-lost notion of je ne sais quoi suddenly felt tangible and real.
In the years since, we’ve collaborated on many a French interior and learned that the essence of French styling isn’t just covetable, but entirely within reach. All it takes is a little bit of attitude. And a couple of the finest French designs.

The art of layering
Interior designer Gavin Houghton once said that the more layers a room has, the calmer it becomes. And whether its a beautiful lobby or a luxurious lounge, the French are masters in this sartorial art.
Putting this into practice is simpler than it seems. You might start by positioning a cluster of pendants lights over a beloved coffee table. Or leaning an elegant mirror against a bare wall — a nonchalant little detail that will help your space feel more light and airy.
When working out one’s style, we love to start like this: around the edges. Incorporating timeless accessories that can be taken with you from place to place.
The search for serendipity
The search for serendipity
One French designer who understood the power of playfulness was Pierre Paulin.
Whatever culture craved, he made happen. Think sofas shaped like pumpkins, daybeds that brought home the serenity of an Icelandic sauna, and rugs that traced new tactile topographies.
Underscoring each design was an understanding that life isn’t prissy or perfect. And our homes shouldn’t strive to be either. Indeed, when we invite in a statement style, or stop, just for a moment, to play it safe is when the real magic happens.
"My favourite design is one to come. Either by me or a future generation."

It’s the design equivalent of a Patek Philippe 3974 watch. A beautiful, elusive sofa that seems to be everywhere online — but has become increasingly difficult to get hold of.
The motives for such scarcity are two-fold. While it’s always been a firm favourite among aesthetes, during the pandemic Togo reached cult-status in just about every nation on Earth.
Its iconic folds are also still lovingly stitched in the foothills of Briord by master craftsmen who are only sworn in every generation or so.
So while traditional waiting lists stand at around 70 weeks, we’re delighted to have procured some Togo Sofas in a selection of sumptuous fabrics and hues. Each primed and ready for delivery to projects that just can’t wait.
Lost and found
More intimate than the love seat and more democratic than the chaise, Ligne Roset have recently inaugurated a long-lost typology in contemporary seating: the tête-à-tête.
A key theme for both their 2021 and 2022 collections, it promises to bring you closer to the ones that matter this season. We've selected a couple of our favourite examples, here.
