10 Iconic Dining Tables for design enthusiasts
Food is the universal language of the world, and the table we gather around is its place of translation. A dining space that allows for expression and carries its own story transforms a room from being simply a place to eat into the beating heart of the home. Memories are both made and recalled here, where plates, and passions, are shared. It embodies all the defining characteristics of what we call home.
Take your seat and explore the very top of tabletops in our Dining Guide:
1. The Saarinen Dining Table by Knoll
Like a great many things in that magical period of mid-century design, the Saarinen table was masterminded by the Finnish virtuouso Eero Saarinen. Why is it recognisable? Well, because the likelihood is, no matter your level of furniture knowledge, you have seen it before. It has appeared on both the big and small screen, in media old and new, making it a symbol that represents an entire era of design to millions. The piece has been under the stewardship of Knoll since its inception, founded by his longtime collaborator Florence.
2. Infinity Dining Table by Porada
The Infinity table by Porada achieves something many find difficult: it takes materials synonymous with sturdiness and strength and sculpts them into sweeping lines and supple shapes, executed with such precision that they appear almost like a natural occurrence within the timber. It’s little wonder that this design has become Porada’s flagship dining solution and one of Stefano Bigi’s finest works.
3. Epic Dining Table by Gubi
Epic by name, epic by nature. A monumental mass of marble that wouldn’t be out of place in ancient Greek myth, Gubi’s monolithic masterpiece combines a stylish Scandi palette with geometric angles embodied in soulful Italian stone. Designed by GamFratesi, the dining table has proven so popular that it recently gained a debonair dark green outdoor iteration.
4. BM1160 Hunting Table by Carl Hansen & Søn
As you’re no doubt aware the 1950s were revolutionary for dining and design in general. Nowhere is this more evident than on the shores of Scandinavia. Danish designer Børge Mogensen’s Hunting Table emerged as one of the standout creations of this Northern European creative explosion. His masterful carpentry, paired with his ethos of making design accessible to all, gave rise to one of Carl Hansen & Søn's most beloved dining tables: the BM1160 Hunting table.
5. Clay Dining Table by Desalto
Harmony and balance are hard to achieve, especially in the home. Yet in our eyes the embodiment of a Feng Shui space can be found in the structural marvel that is the Clay table by Desalto, with a connecting point so finely poised it feels as though it defies the very laws of physics. Topped with a natural surface and true-to-name clay texturing, it is one of those rare visual dining delights. We aren't the only ones that took a particular shine to this piece, upon its release it immediately became an award-winning design at multiple shows including 'Iconic Design' and the 'Red Dot Awards.'
6. EM Dining Table by Vitra
Another in a long line of mid-century masterpieces, Jean Prouvé’s EM Table is a versatile design that elevates any setting it graces. Subtle yet strong. Stylish yet striking. Just as at home in a contemporary Italian interior as it is in a Scandinavian one, it embodies the timeless adaptability found in so many of Vitra’s creations — the ultimate in multi-faceted design.
7. Egg Table by Fritz Hansen
From name to frame, this is the perfect small meal spot. The aptly called Egg dining table from Fritz Hansen is compact enough to style out your kitchen but large enough to enjoy everything from early morning eats to impromptu home dinner reservations around. Arne Jacobsen (a very familiar name to Scandi design enthusiasts) originally designed this table to match the equally sleek Ant chair.
8. La Rotonda Dining Table by Cassina
The La Rotonda Dining Table by Cassina embodies the phrase “X marks the spot.” Its bold, cross-sectioned base is the standout and nearly sole component of this Mario Bellini classic. Topped only with a slender glass surface, we like to call this piece an example of simple-maximalism: a broad footprint with very little fuss, yet always the centre of attention in any design setting.
9. Botero Dining Table by Cattelan Italia
The sandblasted dunes have been a wellspring of inspiration over the past year (see our trend focus for more) and that influence is front and centre in one of the latest additions to Cattelan Italia’s collection. Previewed at Salone 2025 in Milan, the Botero Dining Table stands as a monolithic monument to Italian contemporary design, reflecting its evolution from darker to lighter hues.
10. Tobi-ishi Dining Table by B&B Italia
Leaving no stone unturned, we arrive at the peaceful and placid crescendo of our list. The Tobi-Ishi Dining Table by B&B Italia takes its name and inspiration from the tranquil stepping stones found in Japanese gardens. With a shifting appearance from every angle and infused with bold Italian flair, Barber & Osgerby’s design is a masterful collaboration of elegance and ingenuity.
